Off to Hollywood and Banana Bungalows. Sat. 3rd Nov 2012

To-day we move from Disneyland and go to another hotel/motel/hostel right in the middle of Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd in preparation for our 3 day trip to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas at 6.45am on Monday.

Left the Hacienda in Harbour Road south at 12 mday and found the bus stop was right at the front of the hotel, literally! How lucky was that. The bus arrived as soon as we walked out and the fare was 60cents as our LA bus pass is not valid in Orange County.
The bus took us for miles and miles along Harbour Road and half an hour later we arrived at Fullerton interchange to board the Metro link to take us into LA central (Downtown, as it's called) which took about 20 mins or so and from there we caught a Red line train to Hollywood, about a 10-15 min trip.

We bought a 7 day LA Metro train and bus pass the other day for $20, so that is excellent value as I'd budgeted $10 a day for buses and trains.
Packing to leave Disneyland for Hollywood...
A beautiful tree I can't ever remember seeing before...
The beautifully arranged colours of the petals...
Fullerton Interchange station...

The pink tree...
Fullerton Railway Station, has Amtrack and Metro Link trains...
Fullerton is a lovely railway station, looking West...
Looking East towards Los Angeles, about 20-30 klms away...
Hollywood...Metro station where you get out at Hollywood and Vine St
As soon as you emerge from the Metro, this is "The Walk of Fame"...
The Metro Station entrance from where we just emerged...
This is looking right from emerging the Metro, the way to the Hostel...
Found heaps of old movies stars we knew as kids...
Just 200 meters from the Metro to the Hostel...See the white writing on the hill behind my head...Guess what it says?
Arrived at the hostel at 3pm and headed directly to the free tea bar for a cuppa and a sit down!
A nice little bar area out back of the hostel...
They have free dinners here every 2nd night and every other night at their other hostel in West Hollywood...
This is the dress up capital of the world for sure...

Check out the hand jewellery...

Anything and everything goes here...
Police on horses as a red double decker goes past...
This is definitely girl shopping city...
These are awesome ankle breakers...
All glitter swimmers...
This girl had a tu-tu on, was on roller skates, her Alsation dog was pulling her along and also carrying her parcels!
Had 4pm dinner in here. It's inside a real shop, brilliantly clean, great food.
I bought a mask for Phantom Redux next Saturday and tested it out for 30 mins with a $3 Margarita and awesome nachos...
This was our $7.90 nachos... Amazing food...I could not finish mine!
America is so advanced, they now have electric type writers in Starbucks!
This was so funny so I tried a no flash shot too...
I'm sure this guy was hired by Starbucks to sit here in the window and type away on a type writer, just to mock all the kids texting away on their phones!

To-days spend was...
  • 60 cents for a 30-45 min bus ride from Disneyland to Fullerton...$1.50 for non seniors.
  • $21.47 including tax for my Phantom masquerade mask
  • $11.64 for dinner and a Margarita
  • $20 for a beggar for food as we had no other cash on us and were too lazy to buy the food to give to them as I usually buy some bread and fruit and carry around to give them when asked.
  • $50 for 2 nights hostel, includes free dinners and breakfasts, free Wifi, towels, tea/coffee etc and free airport transfers.
So, the daily budget of around $50 a day has been attainable so far plus the added tours.
Tomorrow we do the Hollywood mansions, stars homes, Hollywood sign etc etc.
It's advertised for $39 which I thought was reasonable for a 2 hour guided tour. We were offered it by touters along the streets for $25, then $20, so we took it then later were offered the same tour for $15 each.

We thought $20 was great and did not feel bad about paying $20 for it.
But if you come over, find the guys offering the tours and mention that you can get this particular tour for $15 just up the way a bit and they will give it to you for that.

I'll photograph and post the brochure so you know which one it is.

Off to bed now, it's about 11pm Sat night. xxx
