There were too many beautiful sights to post all on one page so here are the rest!
Check out the height of the stone fences that line the roads here in parts of southern Ireland.
Our first glimpse of Castle Kilkenny...
Coming into the very spacious gardens of the Castle...
Front on view of Castle Kilkenny...
Standing in the same spot, looking backwards over the acres of public gardens attached to the old castle...
Close up of the corner turrets...
Even Ancient castles have to keep up!
A lone chandelier in the entrance hall...
A glimpse out of one of the castle windows...
One of the old furnaces used to heat the Castle in days gone by...
This was a treasure find! The tea room, which was the original old Castle kitchen...but only had a tiny sign, hidden on the door. I went in and had the best cup of tea ever!
What an amazing experience having a cuppa in here...
Very spiritual in here...I guess from all the people from the past, enjoying cooking in here. those are the original copper utensils all around the walls...
This was my delicious Castle tea! I really ate those 2 pastries too and somehow I didn't suffer from the wheat intolerance at all. A 3 cup tea pot too. I sooo enjoyed this experience!
The waiter here had to get up and polish all the copper utensils after I left. His once a year job.
I loved the white marble tables, the stark white and dark timber contrasts...They covered most of the clinical white tiles with wood to create a cosier atmosphere. Loved this room.
Walking from the tea room back to the entrance...
There was a gallery in the Castle showing how to create moods using just sound and shadows...So I tried it out!
Leaving the Castle as dusk was descending...
One final glance back...
Forgot to get a pic of the front entrance of Kilkenny castle...so had to race back before it got too dark...
Going out of the castle and across the street...Nice shops in this old building.
They don't tear down old buildings, they use them to create genuine atmosphere...
Another symmetrical entry to a garden setting...
Thru the previous arch and I came upon this building. We had 2 hrs to explore in Kilkenny...
Loved the red bush growing up the walls. The leaves will all fall off soon and the colour will be gone...
Battery going flat here. Nice little garden.
Then I came upon a nice little Pond...
Another entrance path...must have been the original one.
Around the corner from the castle and the other big Mansion are ordinary homes. amazing how it all blends together...
Great trip and well worth the 28E if you had to pay for it.
To-morrow(Friday0 I have set aside to clean up my blog and trip around town by myself a bit.
Had a full dorm on Thursday night as there were heaps of people in for the other Paddywagon tours they conduct too.
They do tours from 1-10 days all over Ireland and have won awards as tour operators.
Will post more pics of my trip up town to-morrow...
weather has been lovely, about 10-17 C or so...overcast mostly, with bursts of sunlight and a bit of drizzle every now and then.
Perfectly delightful!
